A new survey conducted by Match.com researched what turns people on and off during a date at a restaurant. A big turn on, for example, is knowing your food and wine pairings, while flirting with the waiters is a big turn off. And apparently 32% of singles (39% of women) would give up sex over giving up their favorite food. Either they are doing something wrong, or I am not eating the right food…

Heat Wave Leaves Millions Without Electricity

Heat waves across the country have recently left up to 4 million Americans without electricity and 1.37 million customers were still without energy this morning. Other effects of the extreme heat can be seen above, as roads have been buckling under the extreme heat, causing ramps in the middle of the highway.

GlaxoSmithKlinePharmaceutical Giant Pays Three Billion Dollars In Fraud Case

Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline has agreed to pay the U.S. government three billion dollars for advertising their drugs for purposes not approved by the FDA, while also bribing doctors into perscribing them. While this is a big success, it is just a little step in the fight against the widespread fraud in the industry.

In related news, TV personality Dr. Drew was allegedly paid $275,000 to promote GlaxoSmithKline drug Wellbutrin, which he also wrongly advertised, without ever disclosing that he was paid to do so.

Torture in Syria

New Report Describes Torture in Syria

The Human Rights Watch released a new report describing torture in Syria in detail, even pointing out 27 “torture centers” throughout Syria. The paper includes interviews describing all kinds of different horrific torture, including putting staples in ears, fingers and chest; giving electroshocks with batteries and hanging detainees from the ceiling and beating them with cables.

Americans Will Get $1.1 Billion Refunded 

12.8 million Americans might soon see their share of $1.1 Billion that will be refunded by health insurances thanks to the Affordable Care Act. This is because of the 80/20 rule, which requires insurance companies to use 80% of their money on actual medical care, and if they use less then 80%, the rest has to be refunded.

Apple’s Siri has been around since August, and is being used by iPhone users around the world - however, it’s not always accurate. Actually, only 62 to 68 percent of the time, according to analyst Gene Munster, while it (or is it she?) understood the question correctly 89-83% of the time. Apple’s iOS 6 is believed to increase the accuracy once it releases in later this year.

Tests are currently underway, which critics say are being done now, so the pharmaceutical company can keep their patent exclusive.

J.K. Rowling, famous for being the author of the best-selling book series in history - Harry Potter – just finished working on her first book not featuring wizards: The Casual Vacancy. The blackly comic 512-page novel is aimed at adults and now has an official cover. It’s set to release on September 27th.

Sony Streams Games To Your Playstation

After countless rumors Sony has now officially acquired streaming provider Gaikai. Similar to competitor OnLive, Gaikai lets you stream games right onto your devices, enabling you to play games in high resolution without actually buying the expensive tech needed to do so. The $380 Million acquisition could have an important impact on the future of console gaming, as Sony could potentially stream future games (i.e. PS4) right onto your PS3.

After Facebook somewhat secretly updated everyone’s profile with their official @facebook.com email addresses many users found themselves missing important emails. Since many phones sync contacts with facebook, the update erased many email addresses, which then resulted in many emails being sent to the new @facebook accounts, rather than the accounts that people actually check.
